My Sony Mobile ES deck has a mind of it's own, help!

I have a Sony CDXC-860 Mobile ES CD receiver and recently it's been acting kind of "posesed". First it began shutting off (I mean completely dark, no clock, no display, nothing) on it's own and would not accept inputs from the face or the wired remote unless I took the face off and pushed the reset button. After a couple hours of driving it would do it again. Then, it locked up like the CD was paused. I tried to FFW and RWD, but nothing. Then I pushed the source button on the remote and the CD began playing again, but the display was still locked. I figured "whatever, my CD's playing at least". BUT, when I got home and turned the car off the CD kept playing. I removed the face.....and it STILL kept playing. I was like, "Oh, Sh*t, now what?" So, finally I pushed the reset button again and forced the CD out. Anyone seen anything like this? Unfotunately, it's out of warranty now, but I really like this head unit.

Just sounds like another example of the Sony POS line. Did you do the install or have it installed? A buddy of mine kind of did the same stuff(his was a panasonic) because the ground and positive were sorta touching.

Well, in it's defense, the unit is over 5 years old. It IS a Mobile ES unit which, at the time, was ditributed solely through high-end stores. I love the deck because it incorporates Sony's DSP1 processor and has performed flawlessly up until this point.

In your defense...and that of you head unit. The old Mobile ES line is awesome. I have a Mobile ES unit that is about 4-5 years old also. It seems to do similar things every once and a while.

It just started a few months ago. It will keep CD's, or when I take the face off it'll think it is still there and stuff like that. I can always seem to fix it by either resetting it or just waiting a while and it usually works again. It doesn't do this regularly, just maybe once or twice a month. I don't know of any fix for them.

Personally, I would not buy any of Sony's new stuff, but the older Mobile ES are/were really good units. I will stick with Eclipse or Clarion for my next unit.
