dynomat and slow subs

right now i have 2 12" kicker comp VR's bridged to a RF 360a2 with the "punch" turned to about 1/2 way, is there any way to get the subs to respond faster and hit harder. They sound decent but kinda muddy. also when putting in dynomat type stuff on the doors, should you put it on the skin, or behind the water barrier?

Are you running a sealed box, ported or bandpass? Are you sure the box is completly sealed? If its not, that can cause some muddy sounds. Is the box of correct volume for the speakers? That is the main factor in how a sub sounds, so I would say that is your problem. Find out the volume requirments of the subs and how much you have.

For the deadening, you can put it on both places.

the box has visable holes from the outside, but the guy at the audio store put silicon sealant(i think) on the inside of the box and said that it should be fine.

btw its a custom box

Subs move a lot of air creating a decent amount of pressure within a box. It's really important to make sure that the box is sealed as tight as possible. Small, barely detectable gaps in the seal can hurt the performance of your subs, let alone "visible holes".

Unfortunately, I found that silicone sealant was not strong enough to seal box leaks on it's own. I ended up using epoxy which creates a much stronger, more airtight seal. Or I suppose you could try wood filler. Regardless, sealing all the leaks in your box may give you the sound you're looking for from your subs.
