subs----too old?

Hey guys need some help. I've got a pair of 12' 8ohm OLD rockford series 1 subs, these things are about 10 years old. Thing is they are in great shape. I need help making a decision. I Have played them on a baffle board and knowing what some of you say I thought they sounded pretty good. Then I put one in a ported box that was given to me made for the car. This thing is to big, can't put the t-tops anywhere. I want a smaller box so will these suffer to much with both in a box that sits level with the upper shelf of the trunk? I am pushing them with a kenwood amp that peaks at about 300 watts bridged at 4ohms. Latter, Mike

I've got two Kicker Comp 12's in a sealed box sitting flush with the top of my deck, and they pound. If I understand you right, you mean a box that basically makes the whole area behind the seats one big, flat surface? If so, it should work just fine. Make a small sealed box, wire them in parallel, and enjoy. I think my box volume is about 0.85 cu.ft. on each side, which is less than recommended volume, but I don't notice any adverse effects.

Thats what I want to do but everyone says those subs need ALOT of air space to sound good. What do you other guys think? Later, Mike

I would bet they do require a fair amount of airspace.

If those are the same ones i'm thinking of, if you can get a hold of a older 12" dual banpass box from Obcon, it was the best and one of the loudest bandpass box I ever heard.
