how do I hook up doorlocks to alarm?
how do I hook up doorlocks to alarm?
I want to be able to lock/unlock the doors with the alarm remote(keyless entry).I got the relays(2) and the relay harness. Its a viper alarm. The alarm has a harness for this with a green/blue/red wire.I noticed the wires on the relay harness are twice the size as the ones coming from the alarm box and there is alot more off them(white, red, black, blue, green).Anyway which wires go where?I know I have to tap into the lock button wires somewhere.thanks
you can pick up both of these wires in the drivers kick.. lock is light blue, and unlock is black.. when i was doing it, i seem to remember a couple light blue wires and a few black ones.. so make sure you test the wires before tapping in to anything..
Lock wire will be light blue, unlock is black. These are positive trigger door locks, so the correct wires will show +12v when activated, and nothing when at rest, or the opposite circuit is active.
Now, tape 2 relays together, and provide constant +12v to pins 85 and 87 on both relays. The unlock and lock trigger wires from the alarm go to pin 86 on either relay, and the lock and unlock wires go to pin 30, just make sure the unlock trigger is hooked up to the unlock circuit, and the same for lock, otherwise it will work backwards

that sounds easy enough.when you say tape them together, what do you mean?the relays are held by a harness.there is 2 red wires coming from the relay/harness,a big one and a smaller one.and what are the 2 big white wires for,one coming from each relay?Anyone got a picture or diagram?thanks
Sounds like the white wires are for the lock/unlock output wires from the alarm brain, and the red wires go to constant+12 volts. Some alarms come with pre-wired relays, but no matter, they are all wired the same to work with positive trigger door lock circuits. To be sure, orient the relay with the center blade horizontal to you. The center blade is pin 87A,(nothing goes to this) the one above it is pin 87, also horizontal (should be constant +12). The vertical blade to the left is pin 86, (-output lock or unlock from the alarm) the vertical blade to the right is pin 85 (should be constant +12 volts). The vertical pin below 87A is pin 30, which hooks into the vehicle's lock/unlock wire. Be sure to put a fuse inline with the constant +12v wire feeding the relays, and just to be safe, the output wires from the alarm, they are cheap, and good insurance against a fried brain or even worse, a toasted door lock circuit. BTW, pins 85 and 86 just activate the relay when they see a complete circuit, so +12v can go to either pin, it doesn't matter. When the brain sends a negative pulse to the relay, it completes a circuit, and activates the coil to move the switch from it's rest position (pin 87A), to it's activated position (pin 87). Doing this completes a circuit between pin 87 and pin 30 to provide a positive pulse to lock or unlock the doors. Bear in mind that pin 87A is also a circuit with pin 30 when the relay is at rest, so be sure to put a blank insulated connector on it to prevent it from shorting to ground.
If the output wires from the alarm for lock/unlock aren't identified, simply test the alarm by arming/disarming it. The doors should lock when armed, and unlock when disarmed. If this is backwards, simply switch the wires on pin 30, and all will be fine.
Hope this helps, and if you need a diagram, PM me, and I will draw one up for you.
