Wiring subs in parallel to 4 channel amp. Will this work?
I just bought a Rockford Fosgate 300X 4 channel amp. I'm going to run 5 1/4" speakers off the front channel. The rear channel I want to run two 8" infinity kappa subs. If I wire the subs in parallel to get a 2 ohm load and then run them off one channel (not bridged!) and use a Y cable to create a mono signal only to the one channel the subs are hooked to will this work? The amp is 37.5 x 4 at 4 ohms and 75 x 4 at 2 ohms so I'm hoping the subs will be getting 75 watts because of the 2 ohm load on the one channel. I cant bridge the subs because they are 4 ohms and that would be to much for the amp. I hope this makes sense. Thanks!
Rockford Fosgate Punch 300X -
37.5 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms
75 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms
150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms in bridged mode
So I guess you're gonna use 2 channels to drive 2 4ohm front speakers and they'll get 37.5 each, and you want to maximize the power going to 2 4ohm subwoofers. Correct?
"If I wire the subs in parallel to get a 2 ohm load and then run them off one channel (not bridged!)" - assuming the amp has no problem driving just one channel then you'd get 75w out of that channel and each sub would get half of that or 37.5w. [EACH SUB GETS 37.5W]
This is the same number of watts per sub that you would get if you hooked them up normally to 2 channels. [EACH SUB GETS 37.5W]
Can you see that what you are suggesting just doesn't make any sense? It gets you nothing.

What your saying makes sense. I'm by no means a car audio expert. Just trying to get the extra power without paying the extra money
Thanks.
