Can i wire a new system?

I've been working on sorting out my wire harness for my 86. The only things that are giving me trouble is the radio circuit. Its the premium sound system i guess, so its got this little box that everything runs through. The last owner was a hack, and there many, many wires that have been hacked and spliced, and cut in the radio circuit. I want to have a lot better system than the stock one anyway, so heres my idea <p>
Can i cut out the entire radio circuit from the harness Then in a few monthes(yeah right!) when everything is back in the car and working, can i make a completly custom radio circuit for a new system? I'm talking about starting totally from scratch, with no factory harnnesses. And only using new roles of wire? What do you all think? I want some opinions on this.
thanks

certainly, thats what i did in mine.. well, technically i used the stock harness for the power, dimmer, and remote antenna, but i could just have easily picked those up somewhere else.. i ran all new speaker wire, power/ground cables for my amps, everything.. if yo'ure going to have amps in your system anyway you're gonna have to run new speaker wire, and the power/ground/remote turn on the for amp.. so all thats really left is constant 12, accessory, ground, dimmer and remote antenna (if you have one)... and i might be missing a wire or two, but.. hmm.. this is a lot longer than it needs to be i think yea you can do it, its pretty simple

Great! Thanks alot. I'm planning on running a nice amp anyway, so i guess i'll just use RCA cables out of the head unit, to the amp, and then i can run speaker wires from the amp to the speakers. Thanks
Ps. Anyone interested in the metal box under the dash that all the wires go to for the premium sound thing?
