is there a mounting bracket in the stereo compartment? I had to remove the metal bracket in order for mine to fit. You may have the same prob.

You should get a different kit. The kit I use by Metro (metra?) allows different depths for the head unit, which is caused by "extending" the front of the radio out. Some kits look absolutely cheap (they extend like a boom box's extendable antenna). The kit I used had a smoothed out front. I'll see if I can get a part # for you.

Okay, here ya go, from: http://www.wholesaleaudio.com/metra%20kits.html

Part #: 99-3042

Chevrolet Camaro 82-92, Chevrolet S-10/S15/Pickup 86-93, Chevrolet Blazer 86-94, GMC Jimmy 86-94, Saturn 91-94, Pontiac Firebird 82-92. Multi-Purpose Plastic Installation Systems: Professional Installer Series Turbo kit offers quick conversion from 2-shaft to DIN. Attractive 1" rounded extension. All necessary hardware to install an aftermarket radio.

Price $11.25

I was able to install my Pioneer MP3 player perfectly, no clearance problems. Some people don't like a radio that sticks out, but with the nicer extension, it looks fine. And please don't cut up the rear of your console to make the radio fit. Some chowderhead did that to my Firebird's console- they cut out the rear support completely, and because of that, their radio cracked the front of the console because there was NO support for the back of the radio! I had to rebuild the damn rear support with 1/8" steel. You'd think people would realize the rear support is there for a reason. The metal bracket I think Cuno is talking about (L-shaped) was just hanging around in my car, being useless. The few consoles I looked at in junkyards ALL had that rear plastic support cut out, so I had to rebuild mine.

i got it all installed, i took out the metal piece but left the plastic bumps on console in tact,. the back of the deck now rest on the 2 black plastic bumps inside the console piece, the mounting kit i bought doesn't even have the screw holes lined up right, but i made it fit by pushing the deck and kit to the exact right spot then, screwing the face plate over the console, and i was suprised that holds it in tight,
i'll snap a few pics when i get my digital camera back
