amp overheating

i have a rockford 700s and 2 12" JL W3's in a pro wedge box so there's only one set of connectors on the outside the subs are dvc's and i don't know how they're wired in the box and since theres only one set of connectors i have my amp bridged the problem is after about 20 minutes it overheats how should i wire the subs in the box so my amp doesn't overheat?

The low voltage could be the problem....either way, you have a voltage problem or that gauge is broke. When you say voltmeter, do you mean the stock one in the dash or an aftermarket one on the cap, or a portable one you connected to the amps lead?

thats what the volt meter in the car read and i hooked up a portable volt meter to the amp lead and it read the same. would a couple of volts make that big of a differance?

Its possible. If the amp is tightly regulated it is still trying to make the X watts with 14.4V with your 11-12V.

But, even if that is the problem with the amp overheating (could just be that your speakers are presenting too small of a load to the amp *most likely*, or many other things) you need to do some electrical work, with the car on and stereo at a decent level you should never go below 13.5V.

Have you upgraded your wiring? If not, definatly do that! What gauge are the power/ground wires you have for your amp? When you do the wiring for the car, remember to also upgrade the wire from the batt to the alt, and also the batt to the starter, both ground wires (batt to motor and motor to chassis).

Also, that little 0.5F capacitor is most likely not doing you any good. A single 1F cap hardly does anything....
