weird noises coming from an Ishmu possesed car
Two noises are coming from my car.
1) Every now and then my subs will thump, thump, thump constantly. The thump will be there even if I turn my stereo all the way down to 1, but will not be there if it is turned down to 0. I can also hear the constant thump while scanning through a CD.
2) I am recently hearing a whine that follows the rev. of my engine. I rev my engine, the subs whine along with it. Poor ground? I think that might be what it is, but I did ground it well.
8 guage power and ground wire, 16 guage speaker wire
Polk audio subs, cheaper but new amp
What could it be...

#2 is alternator whine, are you running the power and speaker wire on the same side of the car? thats the most probably cause.. as for #1, could possibly be an intermittent ground loop.. does it change with volume, or is it a constant loudness?
"intermittent ground loop"?
it does not change with volume, it is a constant loudness... i think
The other day my voltometer showed the power dropping when I had my system on... it stopped doing it though, it only happend once.

Plug the power wire directly into the sub! Vishnu commands you! :hail:
Disclaimer: only a joke.

I can't say I've heard of an RCA short causing a constant thumping sound. I think they would somehow have to short into each other (the + and -) which is more likely caused by the headunit being crappy. Check the wires first and then the headunit. If everything's fine, have the amp looked at or hook up a friend's amp and see if it's the same problem.
