I am going to have 2 12" Sony Xplods I know there are speakers better out there but is there anyone that has the same setup? I am just looking for something better than what I had. i had JBL 12"'s 200 watts max the sony's are 800 watts max. I blew the other one so i got a replacement. I also have a jenson 400 watt amp. Will these things hit?

I've got a single 12" x-plod. It's brand new. Has been for the 2 years I've owned it. It makes a great template sub for making sure my box holes are big enough.

Oh... you wanted to know how it sounded. No comment.

I've got a sony 12" Xplode and I happen to like it. For whatever reason it sounds great in my box. I was replacing a Kappa 12" and needed a sub with Red in the sub to complete the color scheme. I'll take my Sony sub anyday over any of the garbage Rockford Fosgate makes.

I can see why Sony takes a beating for their decks - I've always thought they were crap myself. But IMO their speakers are pretty decent for the price and I really like their amps. The 4 channel Xplode I have blows away the Alpine V12 I replaced as well as the MTX I have in my other car.

thats cool, at least you have experience with other products and are making an educated comparison. interesting that it sounds better than the kappa; same amp?

In response to RedBird...For one they are the sony 6" 9"'s...of course they suck I wouldnt buy anything from a pawn shop.
I have 2 Kickers in the back..Believe me beats the hell out of Sony.
I bought one 12 and hooked it up. That thing sounds just like the 2 that I had before at the same time. I cant wait to get another one and pound some serious bass. They are a good bang for the buck.

I've had both Sorny and Alpine over the years, and the Alpine stuff is wayyy better quality IMHO. Your the first one I've heard liking a Sony over a V12. What model V12 was it and what didn't you like about it?

Yeah Part of why the suck is probably because who had them before beat the **** out of them cranking it up as well as I do. But they just arnt loud enough for me. Then next speakers I get will be some infinitys on the old credit card. Now thats what I'm talking about.

Mudaholic: Same box same amp. Basically I found the Sony sub to be much more efficent. The Infinity just needs alot more power to sound as good as the Sony does with less.

As for the V12 I'm not sure what model it was I believe it was a 4X40 or 50 watt amp I bought it 2 years ago for my TA. I'll try to see if I have the reciept at home. I have Kappa 4x6 plates and 6x9's in both of my cars (Trans Am and 93 Grand Prix) I was unhappy with it right away didn't seem to have as much power as the 6 year old MTX I was replacing. I had then bought the Sony for my Grand Prix cause it was nice and cheap. Made the Grand Prix sound great. So I went ahead and put it into the Trans Am for chits and giggles. To me and everyone else who listened to it before and after it was a great difference. All three amps were rated around the same power wise. IMO the V12 came in dead last.

I've also used V12's in a friends install and was not impressed. They seem to be overrated power wise.

I used to have these in old boxes from my S-10. This is when I first got my car. It sounded alright, but didn't hit for shyt. Now I have 1 silver sub in the same box in a different location and it hits hard as shyt and still sounds pretty good (besides all the damn rattles). Bear with me on the pic posting, can't do them all in one post

Amp (that has been cleaned up by the way) It is also in a different location since I have my sub sitting down in my well facing the rear of the car. It is just leaned up against the side right now till I get my new box built.

I now have the silver sub in one of the same boxes that was in my first pic, and that box is sat down in the well facing the back of the car. IMO it sounds better there than when it was facing up pointing to the window like everybody elses does. I need to get it read and see what I'm hitting just for fun. I need more pics, but I have to wait till I get to school and use there digital camera they have.

I got
I got 2 12" sony xplodes in my car. They are the year 2000 model.

They DO pouund.

I am feeding them 500 Watts RMS from a QUALITY amp, It was $800 Canadian.

They are only supostu get 140rms each.

I crank it all the time, its beeen 6 months still didnt blow.

They cracked the jiprock on the roof of my garage,

They make Torch's and other missilanious stuff fall off the walls.

A cup tends to fall on my moms head. lol. I laughed. It was funny.

These subs make my keys Jingle and cds on the Console or Dash will rattle off.

I think u need to over power these subs to make them sound good.

Straight off the spec sheets from the subs

RED SUB (XS-L1235): 200 RMS, 800 Peak, Impendance 4, D (inch)10.3, Rdc 3.2, Fs (hz), 23.5, Qts, .39, Qes .43, Qms, 4.9, Vas (Cu. Ft) 3.67, Mms (g), 175.3, Lvc (mH) 1.2, Xmax (inch) .2, BL (Tm) 13.8, Enclosure volume 1 cubic ft

SILVER SUB (XS-L1246): 400 RMS, 1200 Peak, Impendance 4,
D (inch) 10.3, Rdc 3.2, Fs (Hz)26.1, Qts .37, Qes .40, Qms 5.11, Vas (Cu. Ft) 1.99, Mms (g) 253.4, Lvc (mH) 1.3, Xmax (inch) .2, BL 18.4, Enclosure Volume 1 cubic ft

Dont know what all those mean, but the silver one is more powerful and sounds better. And Mike is right, they DO pound, if you power them right. I have mine bridged w/ my amp and it rattles my keys, rear view mirror, license plate, bumper, interior, and, oddly enuf, my windshield wipers Mike, you got pics of your setup?

Yes, I built it.

It took somewhere around 3 - 4 solid days.

There are more than 200 screw in the box, glued, and pre drilled.

I used 3/4 inch MDF, $24CAD a sheet.

The box was sealed with silicone. It's completly air tight, when u pu5h down on one 5ub, the other one mo\/e5 up.

5orry my keyboard i5 being gay 5ome of the key5 arnt working but u know that by now.
