New sony Xplod for xmas

Im getting a new sony xplod deck and some sony xplod 6 1/2's from my girlfreind for christmas. Im going to go and pick up the 6x9's also. Im just wondering will the deck(50wX4) power the 6 1/2's and the 6x9's good? My plan is to get all this for a decent beginner system, then later expand with an amp and some 10's or 12's in the back? Is this a good plan and would i need anything else to set up my system with the deck, 6 1/2's, and the 6x9's? How is the sound quality from this system? Thanks guys for the help.

i have the same system in my 87 T-Top and it sounds pretty good dont expect to be able to really crank it i suggest an amp for the front and a amp for the rear and get the rotary control. get the wire connection kit tooif you plan on doing it yourself makes life easier in the end

good luck

But do you think the deck can power the 61/2's and the 6x9's decently with no amp? I plan on putting the 61/2's in my kickpanel, and the 6x9's in the rear seat sidepanels for now.

Lucky man. What are your expectations? The deck should be able to power those speakers fine. But an amp will make it all sound much better and louder.

EEHKKAAKkkk... xplod? yea, xplods from day to day use.

They lie, theyve done reviews on it, and they didnt cut it, sonys quality has gone down,
Thats why brands like Pioneer, eclipse, panasonics.. and others still rate high.
I personally dont like the set up that they have at all, and the quality from others experiance is what i needed to base my decision on.
I have a pioneer DEH-4100 and am Very happy with it, ive messed a bit around With the other pioneers and am happy with their quality and ease of use, I can title a cd as easy as setting the Eq settings, (very adjustable)

Just my personal opinion, no disrespect to anyone.
Just my recomendation.

Enjoy your system.

I put a Sony system in a 4th gen; the person wanted all Sony equip- even speakers. I put Pioneer speakers in instead. The Sony equip is nice, it's cheap, and better than Jensen or some of those other brands. But car speakers? Nah. Spend the extra $15 and get Pioneer, or Infiniti, or etc.

And remember Josh, if you can make that head unit push 50x4, it's going to sound like crap. That's a peak rating; it's "normal" wattage is 19x4. Don't get me wrong, it'll sound much better than the factory stuff, but distortion blows speakers- remember that. Adding an amp later is a great idea- just remember to plan ahead so you won't have to re-buy stuff. (Like, hopefully your head unit will have at least two sets of preamp-outs.

I like their new xplod decks, but the speakers sound like a bunch of howling dogs.

This is one thing that I've always considered whenever I bought a CD deck and that was the signal to noise ratio on the CD. Those Sony's are lucky to get as high as 92 s/n ratio. You really notice a difference when you get to 100. I've owned Sony I hated every product they ever offered for car audio. But I love their TV's though. Don't meant to rain on your parade bro but I gotta tell you my opinion. Later bro

Thanks for the negative opinions on the deck guys. But im not really caring on the absolute quality on the system. I dont want the loudest or best system around, im sure this system will be sufficient over stock, but im just wondering if it will put out decent with those speakers. Maybe i will consider getting other speakers, however the gift from my girlfiend is the xplod deck and 6 1/2 speakers. She went out and got them all by herself and thats what they recommended...so theres no way id rain on her parade and say "gee hun, thanks, but thats not the best take it back." I just want to make sure it will all work decently together, not the best but good enough. Later adding an amp or two and some nice 10's or 12's and maybe some different 6x9's it should be sufficient dont you think?

something i picked up from your original post is that your deck is a 50*4 output. im not real sure what kind of deck you have, but that rating is for the decks maximum power. what should be more important to you is the deck RMS rating. since yours is 50*4, i would say its rms is around 20-23 watts or so. RMS is what the deck, or amp will push all of the time. the max rating tricks people into thinking that their deck is very very powerful. i think for the speakers you are trying to move, your deck will be suffiecent.

ive always respected sony becuase i bought my first deck from them over 4 years ago and it still sounds as good as the day i bought it. I havent really paid much attention to their new stuff, but i know that sony makes some excellent decks, the sony ES line is tops, just ask me.

good luck!

In that case Josh, give your girl a hug, 'cause they'll sound fine. They'll be much better than what was in the car originally! Hell the sound in my friend's 1991 Firebird Formula improved a lot when we just replaced the old Delco radio with a Blaupunkt- and he kept the stock speakers. You're upgrading both so it should sound sweet. If you get an amp later, you could always upgrade the speakers if you have to.

One thing's odd, tho- where are you going to put the 6.5" speakers?

Well Tom i was thinking of putting the 6 1/2's in the kickpanel and the 6x9's in the rear seat side panels where the original speakers sit now. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Thats all i was checking, i know its not the BEST system, but hell its gotta be better then the blown speakers, and the pioneer 19x4w tapedeck i have now
