Bose Sound system

Hi
I'm new to THIRDGEN.ORG I just bought an 87 IROC 305 TPI with 700R4. It has the factory Bose sound system. I am currently trying to put in my Pioneer CD player. I realize there have been posts about this before, but I thought someone might have some new information. I have the wiring harness from Scosche. They said to also buy a Scosche FEI-2 Bose sound system converter. Will this work? Could someone give me the color codes for the wires and some background info on this system. Thanks a whole lot.

You don't really need an adapter, but it helps. If you just get a connector for your HU so that you don't have to chop up those wires that will work best. On the bose you have a red(HU side) or orange (speaker side) power wire that needs to go to a 12V radio on source, which is labeled in the fuse block. Use a male spade connector there to tap into it. There is a black wire (both sides) that is ground. Any chassis ground is good. All the other wires are speaker polarity wires. I don't have the color code for + - , but the worst that will happen is that you'll be out of phase. For me brighter colors are + darker colors are - . I've been running like this for 8 years and haven't broken anything yet.

The sound system converter harness probably brings your output from the HU down in voltage to properly work with the Bose. The Bose wants to see about 15V or less instead of 30V, but will still work ok with the 30V source. If you want to you can buy 25watt 10 ohm resistors to wire in series with the bose to bring the input down to where it needs to be.
