OK, now I know that the monsoon CD player outta late model 4th gens is not all that great, but bear with me here. I'm one of those guys who likes the factory look. Now I can't stand the "old" delco style, so I found a good deal on a monsoon. You guys tell me if this will work. Best buy sells a harness that plugs into the back of the monsoon. It's intended for a 4th gen, but I can cut off the other end of the harness and attach the wires to my existing wires right? I know that if I want to install and aftermarket amp, I'll need line level adapters too, correct? I know I'm sacrificing quality, but I don't like the flashy look of the new aftermarket stereos, plus, sound quality is not the main issue. I want that close to stock look. I'm sure the monsoon has gotta be quite a bit better than stock 3rd gen.

Thanks

I don't see why it wouldn't work....

I put a stock radio from a ford ranger into a plymouth voyager....so I think it's entirely possible, if not easier than installing an aftermarket head unit.

hook the radio up just like any other radio. go by your local gm dealership and ask a mechanic to print you out the wiring on the radio...slip him a $10 bill and he will do it no problem.

Nice to see someone else likes the stock look. The 4th gen deck should fit right in since its a DIN1.5. Dont go cheap on line convertors. Buy the expensive ones, not the $10 ones. I was going to put one in, but now that MP3 players got so popular, that idea was scrapped.

Here's a diagram I pulled some time ago from another thread. I don't remember exactly which head unit it is for, but I save the file because I plan on doing the same conversion one day. Hope it helps.

Never inserted a pic in a message before so hopefully it displays...

It will fit fine, I installed a 98 T/A monsoon cd player. The only thing I had to do was modify my radio pod since the radio is longer. The quality is good also, hopefully better when I install the monsoon amplifier.
