Stereo Question (Monsoon)
Hey Guys, I want to purchase a Monsoon CD stereo for my car. I have a 1989 GTA with the stock deck that works off the steering wheel. I want to purchase a monsoon CD stereo that came out of a 2002 Trans Am. Will it work? Will it plug in, and will my steering controls work? Has anyone done this? Or is there some sort of a plug connector that will make this work to my stock harness? Thanks for the help!
Take care

I bet the steering wheel controls will not work, even if they fit in the connectors...
I believe the actual stereo will fit, but remember that a monsoon system uses very different speakers, so you will need to swap those as well...
good luck, because they are all strange-sized, and expensive speakers.
/car audio forum?

Hey Thanks ScrapMaker! Yeah it isn't worth it. I just want to get a nice stock deck like out of a 91-92 GTA that is a CD also, and that will work with the steering wheel controls. And it will look stock also.
Thanks again man

You're going to put in a stock radio, after my advice?
noooooooo!
That causes pain in my heart to know that I somehow contributed in your decision for an old, low-quality, featureless headunit...
seriously... see how much this 91/2 radio with CD costs... then compare it to ANY new radio that has CD... I bet it's cheaper with more features for a new one...

Yeah man, but can I get a new unit that will work with the steering wheel controls? I do not want to lose that feature.
Thanks man.

there is a simple device that wires into the steering wheel controls of your car, which then uses infrared to communicate to your stereo...
many find this solution to work just fine.
