hey, i have a 92 z28. the head unit is a deh-p6400 by pioneer. i have 4x6s in the front, powered by the deck, and i am going to install my new 6x9s, and plan on powering the 6x9s by a seperate two channel amp. i have subs in the back, so my sub out for the subs is taken up by my amp already in the back. now how do i go about getting my new amp to power up my 6x9s. how do i hook up the new amp to the deck. thanks. i hope i was clear.

if your just worried about having connections then this is what i would do. to have a good sounding system with amps and subs your gonna need a crossover. i have a coustic crossover in my truck with a 4 channel amp for my main speakers and a 2 channel for my subs.. the crossover sets the frequencies that the speakers will receive so you can tune them to your tastes. many crossovers will have a front and rear input with front rear and sub output. this should take care of your problem while improving the sound of your system..

ok, well your deck has 3 sets of pre-amp outs. you already have the sub pre-amp out going to an amp in the rear powering your subs. so connect the amp you want to use for the 6x9's to the rear pre-amp out (they should be labeled) via the RCA's. then wire the amp (power, ground, remote start, and speakers) and you should be good to go. now that you're getting an amp for your mids and high's, you might want to think about spending a little more for a 4 channel amp just in case you want to amplify the 4x6's as well. maybe later on down the road. but its up to you.
i originaly was going to buy a 4 channel amp to power my 4x6s as well, but my deck gives out 25 watts rms per channel and the 4x6s i got are 20 watts each, so it matches up perfectly. after i put the 6x9s in and get all the juices flowing i will decide if i want to add components to the system. thanks for your help, any other suggestions would be appreciated.
anyone need any products at great prices?

im looking at the installation manual, and from what i remember there was only one output for the rear speakers or subwoofers. i dont recall seeing seperate outputsfor the subs and seperate outputs for the rear. if this is the case, is it pissible to split up the one rear or sub output to devide them into two seperate amps? let me know please, im fairly confused about how i am going to go about powering up these 6x9s and the subs at the same time. thanks.

i understand what you're saying. Your cd player only has 1 pre-amp output and you need 2 amps hooked up... Many amps come with a pair of input and output slots, check your amp, you might have an output, in this case you can hook the amp up to those output.
im sorry, i dont understand what you are saying. if the output is already taken up how do i hook it up to it? i also have an input, or a front output, maybe both. can i use one of those?

no, look on your AMP. Look at this, this is a side picture of my amp. look at the circle, the amp has an input from the reciever and it also has an output, it acts exactly like the preamps on the head unit. Actually, it's the same exact thing, just on the amp, not the reciever.
are you saying that i should connect the line out from the amp to the line in into the head unit?
what if my amp doesnt have a line out? is it possible to split the line out from my head unit?

brah your deck has 3 pre-amp outs. deh-p6400 by pioneer has 3 pre-amp outs. they are the RCA looking plugs comming out of the back (red and white). front and rear pre-amp outs and then a sub pre-amp out (6 total RCA connections). thats what the pioneer website said for that deck model. your amp for your subs should already be connected to the sub pre-amp out. what you need to do is connect the amp for the 6x9' to the rear pre-amp out and then install the amp (install it just like you installed the amp for the sub).
you could also piggyback the amp for the 6x9' off the amp for the subs, but running it directly off the rear pre-amp outs will allow you to better utilize the onboard EQ features of the deck.
if you cant locate the pre-amp outs then read the manual. nothing should be going from your amp's line out to a line in on the deck. thats backwards. it is possible to split the line out but you will run into weird soundstage problems and there is no need to complicate things. there is a rear pre-amp out made for exactly what you want to do. use it.
