6x9 installation

6x9 installation

I'm wanting to get the new infinity reference 6953i series. First are these a good choice? and Second I hav an 88 Trans Am GTA and i have 2 7/8" mounting depth but the speakers require 3" of mounting depth what do i do?

The References are pretty ***, but the Kappa's would be better.

I'd say since you have a 1/8" lack of space, make a 3/8" - 1/4" spacer for it. Get yourself a 6"x 9" piece of 1/4" plywood, measure and cut out the hole and drill the mounting holes. If the screws end up not long enough, go to a hardware store and find longer ones. Total cost to do both back speakers, about $5.00-$10.00 for wood and screws if need be. The sail panels will cover your work, possibly bulge out slightly but not bad. You won't want to use any other material, because flexing of the frame will crack plexiglass, even fiberglass will crack.

Check the post by JPrevost about his stealth install. He did something similar with 6-1/2" speakers in the sail panel.

i have the infinity kappa greens, i believe they are deeper, and they fit no prob.
