5 channel, 4x6 question
5 channel, 4x6 question
Hey guys
Sorry for the nieve question but, to be honest, car audio isn't my stronghold. Here is what my system will consist of (already have some parts)
CD Player (clarion, one year old)
JBL 4x6's (brand new)
6x9's (brand to be determined)
Pioneer 12" sub (brand new with sealed box)
5 channel amp
I am going with the 5 channel amp because I hear the difference between amp'ed mids/4x6's is a LOT compaired to them run off the deck... so those must be amped... not with huge power, because my system is on a budget so everything must work together. Now I also want some thump, but I autocross and drag race, so weight/space is an issue... hence I am going with one single sub.
Now what kind of 5 channel amps are there, as in brand-names? I am looking to buy a used one for around $200-350 (US Dollars)... is this doable? I am mainly concerned about quality, moreso about quality than SPL or insane bragging rights over installation/features etc.
Second question, what brand of 6x9's do you recommend on a budget? Twoway or three-way? Should I leave the cover off them to sound better?
The JBL 4x6's will be in there for about a year or so, until I give-in and get some kickpanels etc.
Let me know your ideas, thoughts and opinions

Sounds like a plan. There was a post around here last week that was started by a guy with a kicker 4(speakers)+1 (dedicated sub channel). That is what I would recommend. Kicker is a quality known company as well you wont be disapointed. And good pick with the future kicks
. About buying a 5 channel amp used, I would personally shy away from that because you never know how its been abused. I would try and get a new one if you can.
For 6x9s, just get a 2 way model unless you are somehow trying to angle them towards the front seats.

what would make you shy away from a used 5 channel? I am already about $200 over my budget set for my stereo so I'm trying to keep costs down.
I figured amps would be ag reat thing to get used since you can't really "blow" an amp by turning it up too loud etc. as long as it has had adequate airflow to cool etc. and it's within one year old it should be fine, right?
what do you think?
thanks dude.
