Bose Radio question

Ok.

I've searched and realize that the bose system(s) do not come with the underdash speakers. I took off the top dash cover, and where the speakers would be, (the slits) there is like a piece of cardboard (on each side) with a single long piece of tape holding them on.

was that from the factory, or did somebody put that there?? seems silly.. but is it there for a reason? keep dust/dirty out? eh, not really sure. think i should remove it?

right now, it's an aftermarket radio (came in the car when we got it).. but it has the 2-speaker bose system in the rear compartment's lid.

now
1) i've read about the difference in Bose speakers (3 ohms), and I am wondering if there is a good way to put speakers in the dash area, and have them work with the 2 bose in the rear...

2) what headunit would be good for a setup like this (even without the underdash speakers) since the radio that's in there currently, looks like a mess (ugh), and has a problem with the display

so: a headunit that will work, and fit, but won't blow the speakers (bose)

well not looking for loudness.. what most people want is something to impress people (huge bass, loud).. well i'm looking for something that will just be good to listen to.

the bose already sounds good, but i don't think the radio is really taking advantage of them

plus i like the look of the bose and i'm not looking into spending big bucks for a high-end system

just trying to take advantage of what is already there

i think its going to be more of a pain in the *** to try to salvage anything than it would be to just replace them.. some cheap infinity speakers and a decent head unit will give you a great clean sound without breaking the bank.. and with the additional options of amping the speakers later.
