Anyone with experience in Headunit Wiring

ok i finally got sick of my stupi head unit.

about 3 months ago for no reason it stopped lighting up. i wired it to the car fine, its just the lcd display, stopped lighting up. it still works, the cd player and what not, and i dotn have the moeny to buy another.

what im asking is does anyone know how i can fix this, i am willing to open up the cdplyer and mess around only if i am given good explanations of what to fix and how to do it.

to make sure you know it isnt burned out: in cold weather(in the morning) the LCD will flash on and off, flicker then stop. so i am thinking it may be a bad connection somewhere inside the unit.

How old is the unit. What make is it too. Is it a flip down face or a removeable face? If so the actual contacts that you see when you take off the face may be dirty, I would try to clean them first before I start tearing it apart. Use a old tooth brush and a little Rubbing alcohol to scrubb it clean. Do this gently though. I don't want to be responsable for you being to ruff or puttin to much alcohol on either. Just my 2 cents. HTH

the headunit is a Panasonic, fold down, removable face plate, cd player, i dotn know the actual type though(im at collge as of right now) its proabably about 2-3 years old. i dont believe it is a problem with the actual face of the unit, it is soemthing deeper. all my ocntacts are fine. but if it will put your heart at ease when i arrive at my humble abode (home) i will clean them with alcohol

mostlikely, your head unit has bad resistors or maybee diodes that are bad. if you have an early panisonic head unit with the day/night display, you likely might have had a recall on this problem. if not, i owuld look for bad resistors, diodes, or even bad solder connections. use a good magnifieing glass to look at all the internal connections, and internal wireing. or you might want to take it to an electronics repair shop. they might be able to fix it for you cheaplly, if they are experianced enough and have the appropiate tools.

good luck
