Also keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of ebay stuff is 'b-stock' whether they say it is or not. B-stock is refurbished stuff that carries little or no warranty.
Even worse is gray market stuff, which is equipment that is new, but has had the serial numbers removed so that the manufacturer can't trace it back to the original wholesaler. This stuff usually shows up with brands that aren't authorized for Internet sales like Eclipse and Alpine.

I guess Im biased though , ive had nothing but good ebay transactions.
You could also check out ubid.com they occasionly have good deals these days, but they used to be way better. I bought a fosgate deck from them (refurb) , it krapped out on me after a couple of months...so I sent it back and they sent me a new one.

ubid.com is full of b-stock product. For the average joe, that means refurbished stuff.
Just be cautious of Ebay purchases, regardless of the seller rating. Just because he has a 5k rating doesn't mean that it's 100% legit. You may get your product, and it may work for 2 weeks. You already left positive feedback, but now you have a broken stereo and no way to get it fixed.
I've also seen people with a huge seller rating, only for it to be padded by hundreds (or thousands) of generic users with little or no feedback of their own, all posting their feedback a minute or two apart. Makes you wonder.
I always make a habit of reading the negative responses. You learn a lot about a seller by how he responds to negative feedback. If he's polite and seems interrested in fixing the problem, it's a lot different than if he flames the unhappy person or simply ignores him.
I buy a lot of stuff on Ebay and I've never been burned. I know a lot of people that haven't been so lucky. To just blindly place your trust into a seller just because he has a lot of feedback is nieve and is going to get you burned eventually. Just be smart, that's all.

I'm not going to buy anything off of ebay. Don't plan on ever doing it! O.K., hit me with all the reasons that I'm "dumb" for saying that. I agree with what Jim85 says, but I will just avoid getting screwed by not bidding on anything from them. I do have to say it was a good learning tool for me when I was looking to buy my camaro! hook some head phone into just the rca out put cables, no amp.
rca out - you will hear music
sub outs- you wont hear ****
i have a nice set of 900mhz wireless headphone hook into my system. on the rca out I can not jam away with crystal clear sound, i can only getthe head phone turned up about half way. the rca out have too much power and when my transmitter boost the signal I get noise.
but the sub outs are at a much cleaner lower lever and I can then crank my headphones and jam like it should be.
also, you will getthe same effect with your stereo amp, sub outs are cleaner, and a must for good sound if your using an amp.
sorry but its true.

Some stereos have higher front and rear voltages than the sub output. Reason for this is because it's easier to have engine noise in a full frequency signal such as front and rear speakers vs a low frequency level such as the sub. Most likely I would assume the reason for your headphones having problems is because most are made to work with less power than even RCA preouts have. In my case each of my RCA preouts are the exact same as far as how they sound as each is 6 volt. Only difference is the filters that are on them and the ability to change phase and make the sub outs mono but in know way are my sub outs "cleaner" than my other RCA outputs.
Also some older or lesser amps will not support higher voltage preamp outputs, makes them sound very bad. Perhaps this is the case.

On some decks, the signal is a low frequency signal only. Most of these decks with the built-in crossover allow you to adjust the crossover frequency, or run it full range.
The ONLY difference is the frequency response of the output. Same signal, same voltage, same output impedance.
The only thing I can imagine is that you had a problem with your RCA outputs, or you have one of the VERY few decks out there that provides a higher sub-out voltage than the rest of the pre-outs, and that the output impedance of those pre-outs caused fits with your 900mhz headphones.
I've hooked up hundreds of decks in every configuration imaginable, and never, ever, was there a problem using full range RCA outputs to drive a sub amp. It's common practice, and any installer will verify that.
