speakers exposed to sunlight

i just ordered some new pioneer 10" subs, and they'll be going into a box that i built in the trunk. my question is, should i try to cover them with something (like a grille), so that they don't get exposed to the sun? i really don't want to bake them in the summer...

also, my hatch window is tinted 5%, will that do anything to protect them?

I have 5% also and it should protect your speakers from the sun as well as visual theft.

one of the reasons why speakers/subs/drivers/etc are on the semi-expensive side is that materials are meant to take a beating from the elements. i wouldnt worry too much about the sun. grilles are more for visual and protect them from stuff inside the car.

I've had my subs for about a year now. They sit in the hatch and are exposed to sunlight. I haven't seen or had any problems with them yet. I think they will be fine and wouldn't worry about the sun

Just smear some SPF-30 on them... they'll be fine.

Dont you have one of those rollers that you attach to the hatch and as you lower the hatch, it covers everything in your hatch? Anyway, I would buy grille too, just because you never know what is going to go flying back therewhen you take off. I have had a shoe fall back there when i took off once, racing a newer monte carlo ss (smoked him by the way ) and the shoe landed on my sub and knocked the phuker right off its voice coil! Be wise, wiser than me anyway
