I am wondering if there is a way to fit a sub woofer under the front passenger seat of my camaro. For fun purposes. I already have an amp installed in the rear hatch area with two subs. Would it also be possible to hook up 3 subs to one amp. As of now the two subs I have are bridged.

Does anyone know the demensions of the area under the seats?

 

I dunno bout that one, i have a baby Amp 120Watt under the pass seat that runs my front speaker and theres barely enough room for that. Its a small amp, not much space under there for really anything more.

Unless you feel like raising the seat by about 5" or so, I dont see it happening. Unless you define a sub as a 4X6

there is a copany called planet audio and they have what they call a "neo" line. where the speakers magnants are mounted in front of the speaker. my friend has the 6.5 inch caponints in his accord. and they sound great. they make then in a 10 and a 12 inch sub. they might fit under there with some work. i beleave the mont depth on a 10 inch sub is like 4 inches.

 

blaupunct makes a waffer sub with the depth of a duracell might be useful.

If you somehow manage to find a 1" deep subwoofer that doesn't sound like a fart in a thunderstorm, you STILL won't have room for an enclosure.

 

no.. if you did, you would end up with 1.33 ohms of resistance on the amp, and VERY FEW amps can handle that load. the only one I know of that doesn't cost over $1,000 is the sony xplode sub amps, which are designed to handle three subs...

how? got any wiring diagrams on that? any amp? nice try... you would melt your trace board and fry the amp rails in a second... and as for sony xplode, not reppin them, in fact i hate them, but they are able to handle the impedance load.. I see this EVERY F***ING DAY and I have to explain to small brained kids who think that math or physics don't apply to them.. it will kill your amps!! you don't have to believe me.. go try it

 

Kicker JBL I think JL audio just to name a few that work at 1 ohm there are quit a few amps that work at 1 ohm. Also hooking up with a combination of series and parrallel makes it possible to hook up many subs BUT getting enough power to a high number of subs on one amp is a different story.

 

thats what im saying. you somehow pulled 1.33 ohms resistance out of your ***, with absolutely no indication of what kind of subs this guy is running. lets use your numbers and make our hypothetical sub a 4-ohm SVC. if you wire 4 4-ohm subs in a parallel/series configuration, you have a net impedance of 4 ohms. do you understand that concept? i can explain it more in depth if need be. anyway, now you have 4 subs with a combined impedance of 4 ohms. take 4 of these groups in parallel/series, and you now have 16 subs wired at 4 ohms. now tell me you dont have an amp that can't handle a 4 ohm load. as was stated, you'd need a pretty damn powerful amp to get any kind of useable power to these subs, but the point remains that you can wire practically infinite subs together without automatically getting in to low impedances.

 

you can hook up 3 12 ohm subs to one amp and if they are wired correctly that would give you a 4 ohm load, I dont see why no one mentioned that

 

well, 12 ohm subs arent that common. the reason i gave the explanation i did was to show that you can wire literally thousands of subs together and still net out to 4 ohms impedance, or 2, or whatever you want to get to.

 

mudaholic is correct. I don't know what 84ws689bird is talking about. He needs to take a basic electronics class. I hope most installers know more than he does. V=IR is the first rule of electronics. As long is you keep you load (R) down then your current (I) will not increase because your voltage (V) is a constant. If you have a 1000 W @ 4ohm amp then you just have to devide the power by the number of subs you have as long as you keep the overall impedence at 4 ohms. ie. if you have 4 subs then 1000/4 gives you 250 per sub, 20 subs then 1000/20 gives you 50 watts per sub. So eventually you get to a point where you are not suppling enough power to each individual sub but you won't blow your amp. Or you could just state the following 2 facts :

Taking into account that all speakers (in this example) are 4ohm

* Wiring 2 in parallel halves the impedance (ohms)
* Wiring 2 in series doubles the impedance

It's a very clean cut example, but it is a good guide.

I think this is deviating from the subject though, so back to the question in hand :

The problem with mounting a subwoofer under the seat is you have to take into account the fact that you would not just be mounting a speaker there, but a box too. Everyone knows that a sub without a box is little more than a huge tweeter, and even if you were to find a subwoofer small enough to fit under the seat, any box small enough to fit there would not do the sub much justice at all.

I think us thirdgenners are limited to the rear well or the spare wheel compartment for sub bass without major reworking.

if you raised the seat a little you might be able to squeeze a new Blaupunkt (new sub )sub in there. if you make the box just deep enough to fit the sub and extend the width of the box into the rear passenger footwell you might be able to make something work. either way...good luck

That has to be the sexiest sub I have ever seen. I really don't think there's enough room under the seat to put a box big enough to produce any serious amount of bass, but of course I could be wrong.

 

that thing is cool but i always heard blankplunt is cheap and crappy. i may be wrong and i dont mean to burn but they dont ahve that good of a reputation. anyways why not just use bass shakers? i liek thos and they dont sound like a "fart". anything is possible you just need to find the right people to think of it
