Dynamat question

Hey all I got a quick question for ya. I have my Convertible interior all apart and am going to dynamat all I can. How many square feet will I need to cover the inside of the doors and the floor pans?

Thanks

save your money. buy peal and seel (from home depot/lowes), raammat (sometimes on ebay), brown bread, or anything else but dynamat. they charge too much for it and the alternatives are as good or better. good luck. i used about 50 sq ft on the back half of the car, so 90-100 sq ft sounds about right for the whole car

http://www.b-quiet.com/

Im going to add some of their B Quiet Extreme, switching from the Dynamat Xtreme, the pricing is a little less than what i was getting mine for, tho i was paying nowhere near retail

I used 3 bulk packs ( 36 sq ft each) and put 2 layers on firewall, and 1 starting at the bottom of firewall back, roof, most of the inside of the plastic dash, etc, so i'd say you'll be safe if you got one of the 100 sq ft packs of B Quiet from that site, only costing you $140, maybe double it up later

I'm impressed with that dynamat job. Haven't seen anybody that took out the dash and steering to mat up the firewall. Nice!

I have two layers of an off brand dynamat type product. It doesn't have a name on it. I buy it from MCM Electronics. You will see it in their catalog. It's very cheap compared to dynamat. I'm not sure if it is the same as the peel and seal. It come with a plain blue backing.

As for being worth it, I would have to say its a must for car audio. The only draw back to the type I have is that it is an asphalt based product and so it has an odor to it for quite some time. You will notice a big improvement with these type products no matter which brand you use. If I had it to do over again I would probably try the spray on stuff or the stuff that spreads on like spackle.

I have two layers of Dynamat on the floor and ceiling. Two can of rubberized undercoat sprayed in each door (made the doors a little heavy though). I filled all the open cavities in the car with triple expanding foam. A lot of work but well worth it.

The dynamat stuff came from MCM Electronics. They have a search link under Automotive installation on their web site but for some reason it comes up nothing found. Its on page 155 of catalog 45.

part #
60-2010 10"x10" $1.40
60-2015 29"x32" $12.79
60-2020 32"x54" $18.69

I used a couple 32x54 rolls and I bought a box of 10x10's also when I did mine.

About the foam, it worked great for me. A guy told me that he had a body panel bow out when the foam expanded. Don't know if that is true. I put a bunch in at one time and never had a problem. It may be safer to just put an little in and let it expand and then add some. I show people how I can knock on the outside of my car without a ring to it all the time. Good luck

use the foam in places you cant reach with deadning sheets (dyna, peal, etc). be very careful with the foam though. too much can cause the panels to be bent outta shape.
