2 12's vs 1 10

Ok, here is my current setup. 2 audiobahn 12's they are 400 watt RMS each. I have a audiobahn amp, 560 watts RMS.

I really want to get rid of the box in my trunk so i can actually have some space. I saw REZN8R's "stealth" box, and that really sparked my interest. So i am looking for a 10" sub. I am thinking about the Audiobahn ALUM10Q. it has 800 watts RMS and dual 6 ohm voice coils.

My question is, how loud is the single 10" going to be compaired to my 2 12's?

Any comments are welcome.

roughly half of what u hear now. there is less air being pushed so...it will still sound better than without em but not as good as 2 12s

depends on the driver you get, and how much power you want to push with it. im particularly fond of the adire brahma sub, its relatively cheap ($330), but can mechanically handle 1600 watts rms.. i actually got a note with my sub that said powering it with more than about 800 watts will cause your ears to bleed.. so i bought a 1500 watt amp the point is, a good 10 can sound incredibly loud, and the box is less than one cubic foot... and i guarentee you that my setup blows away most people with 2 12s

I'm not real good at car audio, what exactly do you mean by driver? do you mean the amp? I would be using a audiobahn A2801. It has 560 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms.
I really don't need anything loud, just enough for cruising.

Thanks for the replies

driver = sub. is your amp stable to 2 ohms? if so, what kind of power output does it provide at 2 ohms?

umm, i'm not sure if it is stable single channel. the specs show 280 x 2 @ 2 ohms. it also has 200 x 2 @ 4 ohms. so i don't know if it is stable.

the thing about the sub you mentioned is that its got funky voice coils. you'd have to either wire it at 3 ohms (which is below what your amp is published to handle) or 12 ohms, which would provide terrible output. what kind of budget are you on?

I would like to stay under 450 for the box and sub. So the box is 200, so i would like to stay under 250 for the sub. This is flexable though, so let me know what subs you think i should get. Thanks for all of you help.

if you arent looking to get too loud, you can pick up an alpine type-r, its a nice sub with good power handling. also look at infinity perfects or jl subs. if you want to spend a tad bit more, you could go with an adire brahma ($330)

Mudaholic, have you measured the SPL of your setup with the 1 brahma 10? I've been planning on replacing my 2 12" oz subs with a single Brahma 12", but the thought of using a 10" has crossed my mind too.

mudaholic, thanks for all of the help. I think i am going to go with the audiobahn aw1000Q. it is 600 watts RMS x1 @ 4 ohms, so my amp, being 560 RMS x1 @ 4 ohms should power that nicely.

5.0- keep in mind that the 1000q is a dvc driver, so you are gonna end up with a 2 ohm load or an 8 ohm load.. neither one compliments your amp very well. if i were you i would look for a 4-ohm SVC sub or a 2-ohm DVC.. those will allow you to maximize the output of your amp

efbaudy- his amp doesnt handle a 2 ohm load bridged...

jim- ive never had it metered, its a sexy setup tho.. ive never actually heard a brahma 12, would be interesting to compare it to my 10 tho... ive been incredibly happy with the brahma, i definitely dont think you can find a better sub for the price
