Bose System
Bose System
Has anyone installed a bose system from a 92 camaro into their car? I'm planning on using the front kickpanel and real speaker cover on my car and was wondering how to wire everything up and install everything. thanks

I installed a custom 8 way BOSE speaker system into my 84 Berlinetta. I mounted a factory 92 BOSE GOLD system into the car - then mounted 2 additional kick panel speakers in the dash and 2 mounted 2 6x9's in the sail panels. I liked the sound quality so much that I after hearing it in my third gen --- I custom installed a 5 Speaker BOSE system into my 95 Z28 !!!
When I original installed my 8 way system, I used 2 factory third gen wiring harnesses and spliced all the wiring into a "peripherals" interface so I could retain the original Berlinetta radio. This was important to me because of the uniqueness of the radio and the Equalizer that is included on the Berlinetta head unit. KEEP IN MIND that the factory BOSE system did not come with an Equalizer & I *personally* feel that any stereo without an EQ is garbage !!!!
When I installed the 5 way BOSE system into my 95 Z28 I needed to custom create the wiring harnesses ( using GM plugs) and the job was a lot tougher !!! The Third Gen BOSE wiring uses "independent" wiring harness making removal & installation a breeze........ But the newer Camaro BOSE systems integrate the BOSE wiring along with all the other wiring in the main harness !!
In Short - Find a Factory ThirdGen BOSE Harness if you want the installation to be as quick/painless as possible !!!

Good luck finding some --------- It took me about 3 years to put the system together.
When I finally got the system completed I had the 2 kick panels & the 2 little 4" speakers in the locking storage lid. About a year later I found the 92 BOSE Gold locking cover with the 6" woofers and swapped that into the car.
That still was not enough,............. so I spliced into the wiring and installed another 4 BOSE Speakers. 2 6X9's in the sail panels and 2 more 4" 'Kick Panel' speakers mounted in the dash. Now the sound is INCREDIBLE !!
I can't begin to tell you where to find a this set-up. Like I said,..... I looked for 3 years before acquiring all the right parts. I am currently speaking to another ThirdGen member about buying a BOSE rear speaker Box from him as a replacement for my current one.

NOT the same wiring ------->
No --
My 'custom' BOSE front speakers ( in the dash ) were pulled from an extra set of kick panels I had............. they are 4" tweeters and Not the 4x6 speaker like a nomal system.
ALL the BOSE speakers use a factory BOSE Amplifier at EACH speaker............. each speaker plug has 4 pins. The Extra 2 wires are Positive (+) and Negative (-) wires to the amp that's running the speaker.
A normal speaker system uses only 2 wires.

The BOSE system uses 4 speakers from the factory,.......
2 in the kick panels ( 4" tweeters )
and
2 in the hatch lid. (4" woofers from 87-90 & 6" from 91-92)
The Factory BOSE system has NO speakers installed in the dash.
A Guy here named Terry Kennedy ( I think ) was selling a rear hatch lid with the 4" BOSE Speakers a while back,............ Search for " BOSE " in the classified section to see if his add is still there. He might still be selling it if not already gone !

so how many speakers are in the bose system? I assumed it was 8 (2 speakers in the dash and 2 in the sailpanels + the 2 kickpanels and the 2 hatch speakers). I'm confused now. So what does the bose system actually consist of? Thanks

I used a " Peripherals " interface in order to connect my NON-BOSE head unit to the BOSE Speakers. It uses 4 channel output and each channel is adjustable using a tiny screwdriver.
The interfaces not only increases the output compared to a factory BOSE system's head unit BUT - & it also allows the awesome BOSE speaker set-up to be used in conjunction with an Equalizer - something the factory BOSE system did not have !!!!!!!!!!
The BOSE speakers in the newer cars are very similar as far as the usage of the external amp. I'm sure the 87-to-92 BOSE systems used 4 speakers. I think the 39-94 BOSE system was a factory 3-way (or 4-way ?) system and I'm sure the 95 & Up were a 5-Speaker system.
Also --- The 93 & Up BOSE speakers/amps use a different wiring "plug" than on the third Gen BOSE speakers/amps.

Why are you so determined with only getting a bose setup? I have a awsome sound system and you could make a system just as good or better than bose. Dont get me wrong bose is awsome. My dad has the whole bose surround sound in the living room but I think you would find it easier if you did what I did. Custom sub box with two Kenwood 12s. Pioneer 4x6 in the front and 4 way pioneer 6x9s in the back. I have a amp for the subs and a amp for the 6x9s. The system is loud and it pounds. The sony deck I have has a million adjustment for the sound so you can put the sound quality to your preference. But if you really want the Bose setup do what you gotta do! Good Luck

Factory unaltered Camaro Appearance...............
All the speakers fatrory delco-BOSE speakers that are mounted in factory camaro locations in the factory camaro boxes. I can also retain my factory Post-mounted Berlinetta Cassette deck / Equalizer while having 8 BOSE speakers throwing the clearest possible sound at me.
For me it's not only about volume or taking the "easy" way !!!!!!! it's about having somthing that NO ONE ELSE has !!!!
