I was hooking up my sub-amp the other day. Well the plastic piece between the ground and power broke off and the two wires touched together and pop! No more sound!!!!!!! I mean none! My CD player turns on but no noise. I couldnt have blown all of my speakers!! I checked my fuse under the dash board and checked the wiring at the back of the head unit and all seemed well. So what the heck happened? I even tried hooking up a pair of new speakers and nothing? Did some internal component blow? Some please help? No music sucks *****!

 

the wires touched on your amp? if thats the case then most likey you fried your amp if your amp has fuses on the outside replace them and see if it works

 

No, the whole sterio doesnt work. I could care less about the amp at this point to be honest. I just want music.

btw the fuse in the amp didnt even blow.

 

does your hu turn on and work properly?

 

It turns on, functions, takes and ejects CD's, I turn the volume on it all the way up to 30 and I hear nothing! Im stumped.

Try completely unhooking your amp and see if your hu still works.

 

It is unhooked.

 

Sounds like you got a feedback from the amp and fried the internal amp on the deck. The head unit will still function but without the internal amp its not going to send any sound out.

 

CHECK YOUR FUSE IN THE ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fuse for the amp is fine. My hunch was an internal fuse in the Head Unit but Im no expert I needed to know if that was even a possibility. Thanx

 

Try and open your deck up.

See if anything is fried?


What kind of Deck is it?

 

Its a pioneer. Its the oversized but I dont know the model number off the top of my head.

 

So let me get this straight, the wires were crossed on the amp and the whole system is dead. The head unit turns on, but you arent getting any signal to the speakers. Did you check the fuse in the back of the head unit? also, are the speakers hooked up through the amp. or to the head unit itself? Since we can't see the system, you may need to remove everything and start from scratch one weekend.

 

Ok sorry I didnt explain it really well.

Lets just imagine my sterio before.

Pioneer head unit and 4 speakers all hooked up to the back of the head unit like they are supposed to be.

Then I buy the Sub and Amp. Had it hooked up before but put in a friends car. Reinstalled, wires touchy....and boom!!!

The fuse behind the head unit is fine. The amp is hooked up to support the Sub only.

I guess the only way to find out is to try a new head unit.

 

newer cd players have what is called a safe mode, when it sences that (usually through speaker feedback not power and ground wires touching) it will go into the safe mode, nothing you can do other then to get a new head unit

 

maybe you could have fried the wires

 

I dont see why the power and ground wires touching going to your amp fryed the head-unit. If anything, it should have fried the amp. my wires have touched quite a few times and the only thing that ever happened was fuses blowing...I'd say dont just check your fuses, change them no matter what. all of them. any fuses that have to do with the stereo. Then find a cd player exactly like yours, pull the wiring harness out of that one, and plug the cd player into your wiring harness and see if that cd player works. if it does, you fried your cd player

Word from the wise...pull positive off battery when working with Stereo wires.

 

It's possible to damage a head unit by applying power to somewhere that isn't supposed to get it like the RCA inputs or the remote wire. Was the head unit on while you were installing the amp? Where is the remote wire now, if it's still connected to the head unit and touching metal somewhere it could be causing the problem. Does your HU have a reset button on the back?
