stereo install

alright, im pretty good wtih car audio stuff but this is being a bitch. i just bought a new kenwood excelon stereo for my 88 GTA and got it wired and everything and it works fine but it doesn't fit in the pod properly so the trip plate pops right off, im thinking i could be too long of wires and there all bunched up in there or if the stereo is too deep or what.

get a mounting kit, and you have to use the one that stick out a little because there isnt enough room in there. I thought i could have it flush mounted but i couldnt get it to fit

I had the same problem. The kit wasnt really for our car. There is a little brace in the back that you can take out to give your stereo more room in the back.

i dont know if this applies to brids, but on my 89' Iroc when i flush mounted my pioneer 740, i had to cut out some of the heater routing, and now i cant use the heater cus it will push it onto my deck, but i can still use vent!

I didn't have to cut anything I don't know what you guys are talking about. I have a long Kenwood deck too. I used the install kit from scosche, which is a flush mount kit. everything works for me, including the heat.

According to crutchfield, my deck(MP8017) is 6 3/4" long and the max mounting depth is 6 1/2" long. I didn't have any problems at all, and the car came with the stock deck from 85.

I just pushed it all in there, but didn't have to force it.
