Am I going to blow up my deck doing this?
Hey guys,
I have some crappy subs that came with the car on a board. I've never listened to them and will throw them away, but I would like to hear them first.
I was thinking about just running the subs strait from one of the rca preouts by just touching the wire from the sub and sticking it into the rca female hole.
The subs are tiny, probably 8" MTX road thunders that have paper cones and are at least 3 years old, but are probably older than that.
All I want to do is hear the subs, I am not even going to mount them.
Any suggestions or comments are welcomed,
Jesse

RCAs carry signal voltage to tell an amp what to do......they can not power a sub, and it isn't a good idea to ever EVER EVER hook up your subs to a radio deck.

well if you want to get rid of those subs that bad, plug them into the wall outlet. i know a guy that did that with his old sub, but put it so its cone side down on the ground and magnet in the air, do this in a well vented area plug it and enjoy the effect.

Maybe I'll plug them into a wall later, but the whole point is to hear them, then blow them up....so I need some other ideas on how to listen to them...
thanks,
Jesse

back when i drove an 86 camry i ran all 4 channels to a sub heh it worked for awhile but i had some hard bass hit one time and blew the fuse on my radio so i unhooked it all......i'm pretty sure your radio will blow the fuse before it damages anything

RCA outputs can barely power a pair of headphones.

Your missing the biggest problem with this. The pre-amp outputs (RCA outputs) are high impedance outputs not low impedance outputs. Your speakers, subs or headphones, are a low impedance load. That’s what “could” damage the deck.
