GM/Delco questions
OK, I did a search and got some "half" answers, but I wanted to run this stuff by you guys.
I'm looking into a stock CD player out of a late model GM. Obviously the 1.5 DIN size, NOT the Bose or the Monsoon. I've heard all kinds of horror stories about trying to get those to work without the whole system. I have a few questions.
1. They do have there own power right? No amp needed?
2. I'll need a new wiring harness, correct? No big deal. I have some decent "stereo" knowledge.
3. Theftlock. How does this work. I've heard that you can go to a dealer and have it unlocked, but isn't the whole point of the system so I can't do that very thing. A thief could take it, and just take it to GM right? Do I have to show a proof of purchase from the seller? How does this work? I don't want to buy a stereo that I can't use.
Thanks for the info!:hail:

1. Yes they have their own power.
2. a) If the cd player did not come with any wires you will need a new harness.
b) If it did come with wires you can cut your current harness and hook them together or you can get a new harness to match them up.
3. You should have to show some kind of proof of ownership. I had a 96 Jetta and the previous owner took the code with them. I called the VW dealership and they made me prove that I owned the car and then they gave me the code.
Hope this helps.

BTW, why not just buy a new aftermarket CD player?

I'm kinda old school when it comes to stereos. I don't like all the flashy bells and whistles on todays stuff. Sure, some of the features all cool, but I don't need them.
Oh, and thanks for the help!
