how does this sound?
i want to get a new sound system. right now i have about $500 for the setup. im gunna replace everything that i have in my car right now because the previous owner did a hack job wiring it up. so new deck and speakers...
ive been looking at the alpine 9807 head unit and the infinity kappas 462.5CFP. thats about $310 from ikesound
does it pay to get 6x9's? im definatly getting subs in the back..i was thinking 2 12's alpine type r's cuz people around here say they are the best for the price. dono about amp yet, havent looked into it. but im not planning on getting the subs and amp just yet...i dont think i have enough money right now. what do you guys think?

Well, dollar for dollar on the cheap, if you want impressive, you could just add a sub and amp to the radio. Later as money allows, then you upgrade the rest of the system. I'd just hate to see you buy a new head unit and some speakers, and think to yourself "Man, this only sounds a little bit better then what I had." My friend has done amazing things with one ten inch sub and an amp; might be all you need. Hell doesn't Crutchfield have some kind of deal on MTX subs, buy one and get a free box, or something?
Although it is a different thing if everything's toasted and low quality already (like a Sparkomatic tape player and Legacy speakers)!
Then you'd notice an improvement if you changed it all out for a Sony Discman!
Oh and don't forget quality wires; budget at least $100 for wires for the amp. (High quality patch cords, $40, single amp 8 gauge wiring kit $60.)

well, my front speakers are blown
so i need new ones...right now i just want a new head unit and speakers because i know i want to eventually get a sub setup that hits nicely (and ill need to save up more money for that setup). not for competition or anything, but still nice sounding. i was actually more wondering if i need to get new 6x9's? is it worth buying new ones? i won't use the stock 6x9's with the new system...i'd probably blow them.

i got a JVC kd-sh707 and i am very happy with it, i also bought it from ikesound but then found it for 50bucks cheaper at http://www.etronics.com/index.asp?store=electronics
walmart has a scosche wiring kit, 4 gauge with fuse holder, distribution block/ terminals etc. for 24.99
16 feet of four gauge.
you can hit 140 with one 12. one good sub with a PERFECT box can fulfill almost any bass needs, and it doesnt have to be a w7.
my buddy hit 124db with an old kicker 10 with a hole in the surround.
lol

ehem, ok maybe i didnt make it too clear...but im not getting subs yet. my main question was if i needed 6x9's, and if the listed items above were good.
it doesnt matter though, i already ordered them
. i got the Alpine CDA-9807 with infinity kappas all the way around. total was $445 from ikesound, free ship. good prices, but a kinda long processing time, like 3 - 4 days. i wanted this stuff to be delivered during spring break
