Stereo Installation Kit

I found one at Walmart and it says "Its a multipurpose stereo kit that can be used for SHAFT, DIN, and ISO DIN. I have a detachable face cd player. Will it still work if it dont say for a detachable face cd player? And then it says *GM02 1988-up General Motors Car Stereo Connector and GM01* Will the connector work with my car if it says 88 and up because my car is an 86 trans am. Please help. Thanks.

DIN is what you have and it will fit. DIN refers to the size of the radio.

This kit sounds like it needs some assembly, like the tabs where the bolts attach the radio to the radio location. But it should work. If it's the kit I think it is. But then I'm not sure how much different, if at all, an 86 would be from an 88+. But I think I used the same kit once on the first install in my 89. If your refering to a wiring harness, I think they are different, but not 100% sure. Just have to pull it apart to see or see if someone knows for sure.

I think I'd avoid getting that one, just look at Pep boys or some where else that sells car audio equipment,It'd suck to waste the money on something that doesnt fit

Yes, it would be a better idea to get actually like a Metra kit or similar from a car audio shop, Best Buy, a parts house or from Parts Express or Crutchfield .

the stereo install kits walmart sells are "scosche" brand or something close, it works just fine, i have it in my '85, the install kit dosen't come with the wiring, but they should have the wiring there close by. you need the GM01 wiring kit for an '86.

The scosche kits are a bit confusing at first, but will work as well as any other kit. Unless you're really concerned about how the adapter looks, I'd just get the cheapest one you can find.
