Fairly inexpensive speakers

Okay, basically, I know I'm going to want to do some sound system upgrades on my Camaro. Nothing major - I have no want nor need for a massive sub box or anything, just simply a set of fairly good replacement speakers. I don't really want to sink a lot of money into it (I'd rather put the money into performance), but I do want a fairly high quality set. What are some brands you guys can recommend that aren't too expensive but still deliver good sound quality?

To be honest, I'm not too familiar with car audio prices, but I can spend as much money as I need to...I just don't feel the need to sink a lot of money into something like this. What would a system on the upper-middle end cost?

i have the new pioneer kevlar cone 6.5s i am very happy with them, excellent clarity, and a high sensitivity so they dont require as much power.

over all product, A+

btw, i cannot stand most pioneer products. these shone out through the rest of the crap they produce, but now, i will take a second glance at thier new subwoofers.

My whole car is Pioneer at the moment... haven't got any subs yet... this stuff is all almost two years old and I'm still loving every minute of it!

Not to mention my home audio receiver... :-D

Go to a real audio store, not Best Buy or Wal-mart and listen to as many of the speakers as possible. A good idea would be to bring a CD with music that you will be listening to and know how it should sound and listen to several brands. I personally like:

Boston Acoustic
MB Quart (a little harsh for most)

Go listen and find out what you like best.

Good advice. Go listen to a bunch of stuff. I found out over the years that no matter how much better I thought the Bostons sounded over the cheaper stuff, most people couldn't hear the difference, so why bother spending more on the bostons? Go listen to stuff, and make your own decision. If you find that you like the sound of the more expensive stuff better, by all means spend the money because you're going to have the stuff for a long time, but if you honestly can't hear the difference, there's nothing wrong with going with the medocre stuff. Just stay away from the real cheap stuff.

every now n then crutchfield will have a sale on discontinued items, hence how I got my Jbl power subs and infinity 6 x 9's for super cheap.

I suggest least keep an eye on them plus i've bought speakers off ebay (supposedly new ones) and they came with a factory warranty and such and they cost me 28 bucks (including shipping n all) and they are 100 watts rms 3.5's, tune out the bass and they are awesome plus they can be rigged to fit nicely in the factory faceplate for the dash. i'm happy with them.
