3-Way Compenents - Location?

If I purchased a set of 3-way components woofer, mid-bass, and tweeter, what would be be best location to install them? Is there a kickpanel that can hold all three, or the two bigger speakers and put the tweeter in the door, or dash? I am really into sound quality and I've always believed that its better to have as many different speakers for each frequency that you can. Those 2-way components sound good, but I want to go all the way. I already have 4x6 Infinity Kappa Plates in the dash ( which the local audio shop cracked my dash ) and blaupunkt 6x9 4-ways in the sails. I'm very disappointed with the midrange sound from the kappas. I want the most accurate sound I can get, but I have power windows and I don't know where I can mount the extra speaker.

Maybe I could mount the midbass in the back seat like in new 4th gens... I really like the monsoon sound system in my friends '00.

Thanks for your help

3 way component sets really don't work too well with our cars. A good pair of 2 way components probably would have been a better solution, but since you've already got them, I'd try putting the mid & tweet in the kicks, and putting the midbass into the doors. If you've got power windows, you'll have to build the doors out a mile.

Why not? Because of the placement issues or SQ issues?

Most likely placement is what he is referring to. We don't hvae much room for kickpanels as compares to some other cars on the road. I have seen a few pictures of three-way comps in kickpanels, now imagine that in your car.

I haven't actually purchased these 3-way components, but I guess it's not a good idea....

I can buy some 6 1/2 Infiniti Kappa Perfects from my friend and put them in.....

What's this I hear that the Q-Forms kickpanels don't sound very good? That's what I was planning on buying, probably from Crutchfield.com. I like the "factory" look of them.

I also wonder if I could make or modify a kickpanel to enclose both woofers, and tweeter, or place tweeter in door or a-pillar.

Alot of people are starting to put tweets in the A-pillars. Most kicks will locate the tweeter in the kick panel, but that can cause the rainbox effect. The a-piller is a good spot since it's up high, but for it to work, they have to be high passed at around 5kHz. So you'll either need a seperate amp with an active crossover to power them, or get a component set like the 3 way JL components that have a high high pass crossover built into the passive crossover.

You don't think that the mid-bass and the 6 1/2 can fit in a custom enclosure in the kicks? Or is it not even worth the effort?

I already have kappas in the dash, so maybe I should just put the 6 1/2's and the tweets in the kicks....

I don't think there would be enough room for both.
