Got sweet spkrs from boneyard... dryed out?
Ok, I normally look in EVERY car at the boneyard for speakers, as so many times I have found awesome ones!!! Today I found Boston Acoustics Model 746 4x6 plates... I know they don't fit in a Camaro right, but still, I want to try, they sound beautiful!
Well, The foam around the woofer seems dryed out from the sun, and I am affraid of using the speakers as I might tear it... can I treat it with anything... Armor all or the like?
Also, found some nice speakers/radios/amps from the parts yard? Post it!!

Once the surround has deteriorated, there not much that can be done except to replace the surround. But if it has been exposed to alot of UV, then the cones are prolly getting brittle too. I say run them as-is.
Agreed, try running them the way they are now. If they have foam surrounds, they will just fall apart; not much you can do with them. You could probably get new surrounds for it, but then you have to worry about the cones possibly cracking. At that point, it's not worth the hassle. If the surrounds are rubber, give them a little vinyl/leather restorer... it might help to soften them a bit.

Well, it's good to know before I wasted tons of time on them! I'l try the vinyl stuff... maybe it will keep 'em alive long enough! Not like the speakers will fit in the 'roc anyway lol
