Over powering subs

Here is my question. I just bought an alpine 2200 watt amplifier(power acoustik), and 2 MTX 8000 4 ohm subs. Now if I run a 2 owm load on the amp it productes 850x2 rms. The subs are rated at 500 or so rms. So will this kill my subs or will they be able to take the beatin. THe mothers are going to pound.
Thanks
jason

It'll be just fine. That amp only makes that much power .000001 seconds before nuclear meltdown.

I have a Power Acoustik amp, and while it's a good basic amp, there is no way that it would compare to my Alpine MRV 1000.

MTX are good speakers, especially the higher end like the 8000 series. You can almost dump twice as much power as it's max. Although, it won't last too long. But with that set up, you won't have any problems.

Your speakers will be fine so long as you adjust the gain (power output ****) on the amp properly. This basically meansto set the radio's volume as high as you'll ever want to turn it up to then slowly turn the amp's gain up till the subs start to sound funny. They will sort of sound like a baby rattle. This is known as distortion and this is what will break your subs. As soon as they start to distort turn the amp's gain down till they stop then leave it alone.

other than that its bone stock and ran a 16.4 @ 82 mph with earth shattering wheel hop and a 2.88 60 ft time. (this was with the rebuild and cam only)

Also, remember all amp ratings are max, it's not going to have a constant output of 850watts
