Preformance Sound
Preformance Sound
My buddy just bought a 86 T/A and on the dash it has an emblem that says Preformance Sound. It also has a 4x6 and i think a 3 inch speaker in both sails. The stock stereo is gone but there is a button on the dash with a slider next to it that says "gain" below it. Was there a external amp in his car or some other special thing the base models did not have?

I finally just got a mint "Performance Sound" deck for my '86 T.A. The slider you see is for the gain of the external 5" woofers that go in the sail area under the regular 4"X6" speakers. They sound maginally better than the 6"X9" speakers and seem to be crossed over around 100-120 Hz.
The deck itself is an AM/FM/Cassette with graphic EQ, along with the normal chrome tape noise reduction, faders, etc.
The 4"X6" speakers are a two way design with a 4"X6" cone midrange, and a 1" cone tweeter.
It's nothing to tremendous, but it's better than the standard decks and speakers that came with lesser optioned cars.
