i cant get any sound! can somebody help?
alright, i have a kenwood cd player, had it for about 3 months and worked great and then one day the sound went out. i sent it to the place i got it from and they supposedly put new internals in it. well i get it back and it works a little adn then the sound goes out again! so i send it back and they say that it works just fine for them and they play it for 2 days and have no problems with it at all. well they send me a wiring diagram and a new wiring harness and its wired fine and now i cant even get the stupid thing to power up!! i put in the old wiring harness and still no power. the place i got it from just keeps telling me that it works for them and it has to be in my wiring. well what can it be? what am i missing? i am going to try to get them to give me back my money (doubt they will) and go to best buy, buy a aiwa cd player for 80 bucks and have them install it, but can they install it if i have no radio or anything in the car? i just have bare wires? i havent had a radio at all for about 7 months and im going crazy! i need help really bad. thanks alot

Do you have a Digital Volt Meter you can use? Check to see you have a constant 12 volts, ignition switched 12 volts and make sure the ground wire is grounded. If all those are good and you have it correctly wired the cd player should atleast turn on. What kenwood one do you have? I have the KDC-119

i dont think i have a digital volt meter but i ran the ignition wire to the fuse box, ground wire to the battery, and hot wire to the battrery and still couldnt get it to turn on. then i tried hooking it up in a jeep we have and i couldnt get it to turn on so im stumped. i am having soo much trouble with this thing but i want to make sure that its in the stereo and nto in the car so i dont go out and buy a new cd player and it not work either. and the model is a kdc 319. the weird thing is that it atleast powered up a week ago, then i got a new wiring harness and it just sat in my back seat for a week and now it wont even power up. there is something screwy about this.

I suggest getting a dvm then it's not expensive ($20) and it comes in very handy when dealing with electrical stuff.
There was no need to run the ground back to the battery. You could of just put a ring terminal on the ground wire and run it to a clean metal part of the car. Are you sure the ignition switched wire is getting 12v when the key is turned? If you want to just check the deck run 12v to the ignition switched wire also. You could just splice it off the constant 12v source too. If you are going to leave it hooked up with the constant 12v hooked directly to the battery i suggest adding a fuse.
