Can 4 channel amp have different loads per channel?

I'm toying with the idea of getting a new amp. I'd like to run a set of component speakers up front with it and my two subs in the back. (I've heard that if you do this right, you don't really need rear speakers.)

First of all... is this a good way to build a system? If not, then I'll figure something else out. :P

But if I'm on the right track, my question is, if I got a 4 channel amp, could I run 4 ohm loads on the first two channels (the components) and 2 ohm loads on the second two channels (the DVC subs I have)? The amp I was thinking of is either the Kicker KX600.4 or the KX800.4

The reason I'm not looking at a 3 channel amp is because I have 2 dual voice coil subs, and you can't wire them to 1 channel with a 2 ohm load. (Wish I had looked into THAT a bit further... but live and learn I guess.)

You’ll be fine as long as you use the channels in"pairs" like you said you would. A 4-channel amp is just two 2-channel amps with a bigger power supply in one box. Just remember to use the channels in “pairs”. You wouldn't what different loads on different channels in the same “pair”.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but wasn't too sure.
