Stereo installation questions and such

Hey guys, just picked up a new stereo and want to know if something is possible.

The stereo I got is the standard 1 din size and plays cds with MP3s on them. As such, it's gonna be a rare thing that I listen to the tuner, since I'll have like 9 hours of music per disc.

Now add to this the fact that the car looks so much sleeker with the antenna down, and I think you can see where I'm going.

What I want to do is run an interrupter switch installed in the mounting kit that cuts off the signal from the stereo to the antenna when it's flipped. That way I don't totally lose radio capability, but I can leave the antenna down when I don't need it.

So, what do you think guys? Can it be done? If so, what am I gonna need for it?

I would think that it could be done. just hook up a switch to your power antenna wire and see what happens.

There should be a blue wire coming off the radio for the power antenna. Just put a switch on this wire coming of the radio before it gets to the power antenna wire and that should work. The power from this wire tells the atenna that the radio is turned on and sends power to the antenna to raise it up and then let it down when the power is turned off. If you just put the switch on that wire, you can deside when the power will go to the antenna or not. So the switch will do jus what you want it to do.

If the deck is like any other high-end deck, the power antenna wire (different than the remote wire) will only raise your antenna when the radio is being used. When you listen to CD's the antenna should stay down.
