To Port or not to port........
I recently bought a new 10 inch Premier ( by Pioneer) SPL sub. Prior to this I had a MTX thunder for box with the 5000 series woofer in it. Anyway, I yanked the MTX out and installed the Premier in the same box. It hits, but not how it is supposed to. I would estimate the Box volume to be about .66 or .7 cubic feet.
This sub requires either a 1 cubic foot sealed box or a 1.25 cubic foot ported box. I have always been a fan of the sealed box sound, but it mostly been because of space restrictions. Since I am only running this single 10 I have a choice.
The sub is receiving adequate power, but it pops with a high bass note and simply ROCKS on the low bass. I built enough boxes to realize that it's the box and not the speaker.
Should I port it or keep it sealed. I am leaning toward porting it because I like Boomy bass and am not really fretting over loosing a bit of punchyness cause it's a 10 for cryin' out loud, they're punchy any way you slice it.

Porting it will be a little biger than 1.25 total box volume. Try 1.45 plus the displacement of the speaker (probably .1) so 1.55 cu ft with a 4" port 24" long. This would keep it tuned to 32 htz which should be decent. This also should not cause any port noise but im not positive and you might ask for other opinions. Otherwise go with the 1 cuft sealed box.

I would go with sealed. My Pioneer 10 inch is in a 1 cubic foot sealed box and it pounds. I tried to put it in a ported box when I first got it but it had too much of a flutter to it the bass wasnt tight at all.

They also show the tune of the box and it appears that the ported box will give me exactly what I want.

First off, it's not a 12" it's a 10".
Second 45 hz is so far from midbass you have to be joking. the box I described is +3 DB at 40 or 45 hz. In a sealed box that same HZ would be -5 db.
I really hope you are joking, and if you think I don't know my sh*t with building boxes, you are wrong. I just wanted some opinions. Whether to port or not.
I just thought the port thing was funny because the box will not even be 24 inches in any direction and the port must be at least 2 inches from a side of the box. This speaker is over 7 inches deep so if I go that wide the box will be 1.5 cubic feet +++.
