the heat sinks on most amps are designed to decipate heat while mounted face up or sideways. If they were faced down the heat woudl be send out the heat sinks then it would rise back into the amp itself so it would probably get fairly hot.

however, i think it could be done with the right cooling setup i just wouldnt risk it unless you really have to

Ya, that's what I was wondering.. I could add cooling fans.. to blow accorss the heatsinks.. I was just thinking of mounting them under the locking rear storage lid..

Thanks irocbarry, perhaps with some small fans.. they might not over heat for me in the summer.. plus the sub would not be pointing at them, but would be in the area.. perhaps I could position a port on the box I'll be making to semi point towards the amps.. that would help keep em cool..

if you used a small cooling fan i dont think there would ever be a problem, mine are sealed around them, with ony the sub reserculating the hot air and there are no problems, if your sub isnt pointing at them i woud recomend a cooling fan, but it might work without one

i think it really depends what amps you're using aswell

i would suggest using two fans and pointing them in different directions, one blows cold air in the other blows hot air out

What about mounting one of the fans in the lower part of the rear panel where the spare tire is.. since it is a air flow zone.. It could pull in air from there.. and the air would then be vented out on the other side..

I know of a couple of people with thier amps mounted upside down and never had a problem.
As for the cooling fans I think thats a good idea no matter what or by a amp with a cooling system built in like my amp.
