material wise what basically is done to achieve this. it looks to be molded but it's hard to tell. i also really like how the seatbelts are coverd and the look is completely gone. how could you go about doing that with the plastic as it doesn't look like fiberglass?

 

It actually looks like fiberglass to me??? How else would you mold the sides like that with no seam going all the way across? It could be done with plastic but think about the size of the machine it would take to mold a part that big. I worked in plastics and can tell you I doubt it is plastic if it is solid! The machine to mold that would be bigger than a semi trailer, which equals massive expense!. Looks lke custom glass for the covers which wouldnt be difficult to get made. I could be wrong but Im going by a picture!

 

that's all i'm asking for is your opinion, the only reason i don't think i'ts fiberglass as the stock pannels seem to still be there although i suppose it could have been recovered in glass to make that appearance.

there is to many seams that typically wouldn't be done with fiberglass but anything is possible. i would assume a color with some sort of clear would have been used but maybe that wasn't the intention....it looks like a material of some sort to me but that's just my opinion as it is molded so clean it's a great possibility.

he could have texture coated it, which is like a thin coat of rubber or body filler that lets you use a reverse textured material to lay on it to get a plastic like texture.

 

I have done quite a few custom installs and I would say that the box is made out of MDF then Glassed. Indicated by the seems that are visable, the amp rack part I would say is also made out of MDF and Glassed and or Bondo to Mold them togeather. Well that is how I would do it. That is a Lot of work to get such clean results as those. The fiberglassing is easy the bondo is easy the Measuring and sanding and measuring and sanding to complete a project like that is very time consuming. I did a custom install for a friend and we covered the MDF with Automotive Leather And it will give it a nice textured.

Mold the fiberglass into the stock panels, smooth the stock panels, then texture the entire thing, probably with vinyl.

Like Jim85IROC said try vinyl it also has great results and isn't as expensive as Leather!!

 

It is difficult to tell, it could be textured fiberglass (seems proabable), or someone has some good experience and access to plastic materials, OR it's very tightly covered in vinyl. I think the simplest way to achieve that look would be to make a bad-ace setup like that, then lightly texture it and paint to match. Or leave it smooth and put a nice finish on it - either way, that setup blows me away - SUPER DUPER Clean on that one
