Where to buy ports?

I am going to build a box for my JL15W0 but I am having a problem finding a port that fits their specs. They call for a 5" diameter x 14" length port. I haven't been able to find one that would work at all.

I wouldn't suggest using the pvc as a port, not because how it functions, but that without a flare on each end of the pvc, it will create turbulance around the entry and exit way of the pipe, and also create wind noise, which isn't what you want. Parts express has some really nice ports, check them out at

i would suggest making your own rectangular ports...it will be a more custom look and will sound much better

You can flare a PVC port, you just need to be a bit more creative. You can radius the wood that it glues to on the exterior of the box, and likewise, you can glue more wood to the other end and flare it. A great way to do this is to build an internal brace inside the box, and put it right at the end of the port. Cut the right size hole, then grab a router and flare away. Not only does this keep costs down (even 4" flared ports are UBER expensive), but it adds a nice brace inside the box to keep resonances down.

Yeah I never tried that with wood before but sounds like it could have a good end result when finished. A flared port is like a rounded port, that smoothens out airflow and increases the airs velocity at the edges. By doing this it makes the port more efficient and can boost dbs in many cases, but most of all it all but eliminates port noise, which sucks! I tried to get a link from parts express when I wrote this, but there site was done, internal server error.

flared ports eliminate port noise....but my vote still goes with rectangular ports if you want better results

It looks like a big piece of wood that's had the edge beveled with a router.

Here's an article that shows it:
http://www.speakerbuilder.net/web_fi...ut/porttut.htm

The only thing that article doesn't show is that you can do the same thing on the back side of the port with the internal brace.

nono making a square port isnt really that complicated unless you want it to be.

http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 if you go here and go to the second calculator "calculate vent length" if you put in your box specs, desired tuning frequency, and the outside dimensions of the port you would like to use it will calculate the length for you

dont forget to click on to square ports
