How loud until speakers distort?
I got my Deck and speakers installed last nite.
I did the wiring good, Deck installed easy.
Its a Clarion DXZ535, and I got 2 4x6's, rated at 50 rms each. The deck puts out 17 rms x 4.
After my Volume hits about 21-22 the speakers start to distort. Is this normal, or did I wire them wrong? Why would they distort if I'm only putting less than 1/2 the watts they can handle. And if I get an amp to power them, will they go louder and cleaner?
Thanks, Joe

Even still, there's no specific spot where speakers start to distort. The "21 or 22" spot on your deck doesn't mean anything. That's just an arbitrary number.
Things start to distort for a million reasons. If you have a problem, as you've found, you can have distortion. If you overdrive anything within the signal path, you'll get distortion. If you overdrive the speakers, distortion. Even if you don't obviously overdrive the speakers, as you give them more power, a lot of speakers can become very harsh, due to many different reasons.
