I just bought some Infinity 4x6 references off a buddy, now I have to find something for the back. I want decent bass for the occasional techno, but I listen to mostly rock. Im looking into matching 6x9s, do I want 2 or 3 way? Or is there something better at a comparible price available? I dont want to run an amp for them for certain. Are bass blockers worth getting with the 4x6s? What gauge wire should I use for the speakers, and how much resistence before it is noticable?

 

3-way will give you more bass
I opted to get 2-way cause I'm running my subs, and thats enough for me

 

Honestly, it depends what brand you get, if you want 2-way or 3-way. Typically, 3-way WILL be better but if you get an awesome brand of speakers 2-way is the same.

I have some Kenwood eXcelon speakers in my Bird. They ran me 200 bux this time last year. If you're not planning on running they offa amp, they'd be waaaay underpowered. (80w RMS, 300w MAX).

Just go around to different audio shops and listen to the speakers. Take the suggestions offa here, but it's your ears that will be listening in the end

 

all the of reference speakers are 100 rms and 300 peak. could i get an amp for no too much that i could power all 4 with? my fronts are 40 rms and 120 peak

 

You could get a 4-channel amp and have the front on one set, and the back on another set. Or you could get a 2-channel amp and bridge your speakers together, but then you lose the capablity to fade.

Personally, I'd get a 2 channel amp and run the back speaker off of that, and get bass blockers for the 4x6's. I've had my volume maxed (rms) already, with no distortion, and my front speakers are just running of my hu. My hu is 22x4w rms.

Also, try to have you amp running at the rms of the speakers and not the max. You'll notice prolonged speaker life that way since you're not pushing the max thru them constantly.

I'd check out some JBL amps. They're not over-rated like a lot of cheaper amp are, and can be had for a good price at www.ikesound.com

Bass blockers for the 4x6's are $10 for 100Hz, $15 for 200Hz, and $20 for 300Hz. I have the $10 ones on my 4x6's, and like I said, no distortion.
