I'm fixing up a 1987 Firebird GTA, and since I like to listen to some music on the road, I figure I should plunk down some cash for a decent stereo setup. I'm not looking for really strong bass, so much as clarity, and good mid-high range sound. I'm also trying to do this on a bit of a budget, so I'm purchasing used parts. Here's what I've got so far:

Rockford Fosgate RFX 9210 head unit - Got it for Christmas from my dad, same time when I acquired the car.

Pair of Infinity Kappa 6x9's - Used, the price was right, and I hear they're better than the Reference series ones, which brings us to...

Pair of Infinity Reference 4x6's - Infinity seems to be held in high regard by most, so I decided to go for their speakers all around.

Thats it for the moment, I just want to get some input on what I have so far, so any suggestions you guys might have are appreciated. Also, are Rockford Fosgate amps any good? And whats a good brand in terms of subwoofers? Once I've got the rest of the car squared away (body work, paint job), I'd like to get something in place to handle low range sound, and could use some help on what brands to use, as well as pointers for how to handle installing the stuff in a 3rd gen f-body...
Thanks for your time.

ok what you haev so far seems good, but if you put out the xtra money fo rthe kappas in the back, maybe you should have got the fronts too,

and rockford amps are decent from what i've heard, the older models seem to be better i think..

and for a good sub with sound quality probably get a couple 10"s, infinity kappa perfects would get my vote

Actually, I ended up paying about the same for the kappas as for the reference series speakers. If I could've found some 4x6 kappas for the price, I would have gotten them, but it was not to be : (

Off the deck right now. Thats actually another thing I was wondering, is it necessary to have a seperate amp for those speakers? Or is deck power adequate? (I should check to see how much power my deck puts out...)

That is what I was doing, but my car was too loud for me to hear the music. I went ahead and put Boston's in all four corners with a JBL 4 channel amp. Much better!

Most HU's can not put out enough power to make your speakers sound good. My Clarion ProAudio 8575 puts out 22W a channel on paper, but just was not enough.

Just my 2 cents, of course I could be wrong.

i agree, once i put mine on an amp theres no comparison, youd never go back to the head unit powering them again
