Does your factory CD player play CD-R's?

I just bought a factory CD player from a 92 camaro because I like the look of the stock unit and wanted to keep the yellow buttom theme going. Will it play CD-R's? I've heard that the factory third gen cd players will play them, but only certain brands or types of CD-R's. Is this true? What does your factory CD player play?

Well I have the Factory one in mine. (from a 94 Oldsmobile) that was the newest of that style you could get. And I have yet to find a CD-R that will play in it on a regular basis. I have one Sony CD-R that will play once and a while. but most of the time not.. I've even tried Maxell, Kodak, and a cheaper brand. All the CD's where finalized also.. Mine has been rather tempermental also.. after three months after being re-built through the dealer, every so often it does not eject the CD. mainly when the Unit is hot. inside from being on for a while. But it's gonna be going back for warranty on that one. But going back to the topic. No I personally have not been able to locate a CD-R that works all the time. But I shall keep trying ..

Well from what I've seen .. for you guys in the US it probably would be cheaper.. But it cost me 500 bucks canadian to get mine done.. and I know ya.. I could have picked up a pretty sweet single din aftermarket headunit for the same price. But That's the punishment I guess for wanting to go factory.

it'll spit it out, and you put it back in, and wait... it MAY work, it probly wont.. so it spits it out... you do that about 7 or 8 times, and it'll eventually play for a lil bit.

but restart the car, and you're back to square one... it really doesnt play them too well..... meanwhile, it plays production CDs just fine.

i couldnt take it anymore, so between the CD prob and sound quality, i eventually broke down and bought a aftermarket one.
of course, it was stolen.

my advice would be to get a new GM radio, one that can play CDRs... it'll look almost stock anyway. only 3rdgenners could tell the diff.

I have almost considered that .. if only I liked the way the newer GM ones looked. But as a winter project.. If I can create a new stereo mounting plate that is not 1.5 din in size then a aftermarket unit would look factory.

Well looks like I am looking for another CD player. Any 1.5 din players out there with yellow writing on the buttons? I know the 93 camaro cd player fits this, but does it play CD-R's?

All I can say is **** stock cd players. Just get an aftermarket Alpine, you have gotta spend some doe in order to get a good cd player, but it will be worth the money, believe me, You will be very happy. Screw the stock look, sure it would be nice to have a stock look, but know with a stock look, you will be sacrificing lots of technological advances in car audio.

Believe me, I would love to have a stock look in my car, but i'm not willing to give up all the advances that I get from my Alpine 7894 CD/MP3 player. I just not willing to give that up for a stock look. I just say oh well. I get at least 1000 times better sound than a stock cd player.

I simply want a 1.5 din cd player that will play cd-r's and match the stock 90-92 camaro interior.
