whow to identife + & - speaker cables?
Im installing new front speakers, & cant tell wich cable is positive or negative. One is dark green & the other is light green.
Are you using the stock headunit or aftermarket? Stock, the layout is like this:
Front Passenger:
Light Green +
Dark Green -
Front Driver:
Tan +
Light Gray -
Rear Passenger:
Dark Blue +
Light Blue -
Rear Driver:
Brown +
Yellow -
If you're using an aftermarket headunit with a wiring adapter harness, this should still be the same. If you spliced the wires directly into the headunit's wiring, however, you have to check the polarity manually with the battery trick.
Hook up the speakers to the wiring, and undo the wiring on the headunit. Put the wires for one speaker on each terminal of a small battery (AAA will work fine, 9-volt is easier). For example, on the speaker you're talking about, place the Light Green wire on the positive terminal of the battery, and the Dark Green on the negative terminal. Watch the speaker cone as you do this. If it pushes out away from the speaker basket, the Light Green wire should be hooked up to the Positive wire for the front right speaker pair on the headunit, and the Dark Green on the negative. If the cone pulls inward, it's opposite: Light Green to the Negative wire and Dark Green to the Positive. Repeat for the other four speakers and you're set.
[edit] Don't leave the battery connected to the speaker for any longer than you have to. A strong constant voltage can eventually burn them out. Simply tapping the wire on the battery should be enough for your needs. [/edit]

damn I think I have my speakers reversed up front... but I can't even tell since they aren't really putting out any bass and they don't cancel with my 6x9's... oh well...
