Amp hookup Question. Possible/Safe?
I want to find a way to hook up my amp without having to drill a hole in my firewall. I can't see any pre-existing holes to fit the power wire through..so I was wondering this... Is it possible / safe to have a battery in the trunk just hooked up to the amp and nothing else? Here is a pic..i can't explain it well..
edit: dunno if this matters but the battery is an optima red, amp is a 760 watt to 2 12 RF Punch

No because the battery is not an infinite power source. Batteries only hold a small amount of energy for short periods of use and they only carry around a 12.0 volt. Most amps are measured at RMS output with around 12.5 all the up to 15.5 volts. Thus you need to have it charging by the alternator.

Drilling a hole in your firewall is easy. Don't let that deter you. Just take your time and find a good spot. On cars with the battery on the passenger side, drilling right near the antenna hole in the passenger kick panel is the best spot. On cars with the battery on the driver side, I like to choose a spot below where the clutch master cylinder passes on 5 speed cars. On automatics, that whole area works well. Drill it, and put a rubber or plastic grommet in the hole.

And just think about all the money you're saving over having an audio shop do it for you.
Main thing like Jim said is to be sure to use a grommet when going through the firewall, or you'll have a fireball. *no pun intended*

Wow, I looked it up and man that did look nasty. I guess you're just lucky the whole car didn't engulf with you in it or something.
