Wanted: Old Alpine CD Changer

I have an Alpine in-dash cassette player #7525 that came in my car when I bought it. I'd like to add a CD changer but they tell me it's too old (has thin wire hookup? not MBUS or newer) It plays terrific, has an equalizer, an amp, and about 16 speakers. Tried Alpine and Crutchfield...no luck! Does anyone know where I could get one of these outdated units? New or used?

Could anyone even give me advice as to what type of hookup cables or CD unit would be compatable with my old 7525. If I knew what I needed, maybe I could find it on Ebay,
Thanks

The rest of the model number would help.
You said it's older then M-Bus, that would be a problem. I think it is an M-Bus unit though. Heres the run down (did some digging).
If the model number starts with CDM=# (M-Bus unit) You can use a CD changer that starts with CHM-#.
If the HU starts with CDA-# (Ai-NET) you can use a changer that start with CHA-#.
If it start with CDE-# you're outa luck.
Now all is not lost if you have a CDM-# unit and can't find a changer that old. You can get an addapter (KCA-130b) that will let you use SOME of the Ai-NET changers with the older M-Bus HUs. The kick here is that it will only work with three AI-NET changers. So you still need to find one of them. They are the:
CHA-S604
CHA-S614
CHA-S634.

I know not exactly what you asked, but this will help you with what models you can get. If any of this aplies to you, if your unit is older them M-Bus, well ???
Hope this helps you, if not maybe some will search this down the road.

Re: Wanted: Old Alpine CD Changer

quick question.... could my 85 trans am have come stock with the alpine cassette player and the built in amp? it has the amp control factory built in the dash but it came with the alpine rather than the bose cd player from what i was told by the previous owner, alose the rpo sheet is gone so that's no use

The UQ7 stereo system didn't use a Bose head unit, and thirdgens didn't have factory CD players in 1985. The UQ7 used a normal Pontiac style Delco AM/FM cassette deck. The power/slider in the dash controls an aux amplifier that was mounted below/behind the map pocket on the passengers side dash. In the back the standard 6x9 speakers were replaced with plastic enclosures with a 4x6" speaker, and a small subwoofer in each side.

So to answer your question, no thirdgen came with an Alpine cassette deck stock. The stock deck was probably a UX1 like this one...

The tape unit in the UX1 is manufactured by Blaupunkt, but the complete AM/FM cassette deck was manufactured by GM's Delco division.

Re: Wanted: Old Alpine CD Changer

well the guy i got the car from told me the factory amp in this car was in the compartment opposite the spare tire in the rear hatch, and i was recently informed today by my friend who works at the dealership that some did come with alpine but it had to be ordered

Re: Wanted: Old Alpine CD Changer

You were misinformed.

There were only two amplified systems offered between 82-92 in the Camaro and Firebird.

The Camaro from 87-92 was offered with a Bose system, with a special head unit, speakers in the kick panels, and in the trunk in a locking cover over the spare tire storage well. The Bose amps were self contained in the speaker enclosures.

The Firebird from 84-87 was offered with the Delco UQ7 system I described earlier.

If you still have doubts, you could go find a 1985 Firebird brochure and see for yourself.
